One of my favorite creative outlets is music. I have been playing with my band for two years and we’ve enjoyed some moderate success. We wanted to stand out, so I took initiative and redesigned our homepage to improve the user experience while housing the same content and keeping it easily editable.

Before
One of the biggest issues we have is over-saturation in the music scene. So many other bands, including ourselves, use Linktree to show case their links. To stand out, I created a better interface to organize and explore our links while establishing a more professional image.

The hero of the page originally included the logo, name and social links, as well as numerous links of interest in no particular order. Several other platform messages competed with our links (e.g. “Cookie Preferences”, “Subscribe”, “Support Anti-Racism”, “...”).
After
Since 82% of our visitors used mobile devices, we prioritized mobile-first navigation.

The new landing screen solved this by including an image of the band along with the logo and expanding the social icons, This screen helps differentiate from other bands and create brand recognition.

The links below are now grouped on a menu right under the social icons. Clicking each of those tabs while slide down to the selected section.
View Site
Video Highlight
The Music section has a video highlight to showcase our latest video, right within the page
Music & Streaming
Right underneath, we have a slideable group of  links to listen to our album on different streaming platforms and other music videos.
Shows & Tickets
The Shows section will include links to buy tickets to our shows. It shows a preview of the poster, which differentiates visually one from the other without having to read the text.
Merch
The “merch” button initially took you to the Shopify site, but with the new design, users can preview and click on specific products. We removed another step in the flow by including the “Join our mailing list” functionality straight into the site.
Email Capture
Another pain point was having to click an external site’s link to join our email list. We included this box to reduce the number of steps to grow our email newsletter list.
